Discount code for free shipping

Hi,

Is there any way to create a discount code that is just for free shipping?  I realise the discount code can be created for the flat rate shipping cost, but as we have free shipping over a certain amount, if the order is over that amount, it would be giving an additional discount.

This has been requested before and might come in the future. Not a bad idea, but what would you do if the user selected express shipping that is three times as expensive?

That is a good point. Two ways it could be done:

1. The add-on allows you to select which shipping module name has the free shipping; or
2. The add-on allows you to select a maximum dollar amount for the free shipping, so for higher priced shipping options, it gives a discount of that amount.

Another thought: I notice there is a "Min. Subtotal Amount".  A quick solution for us (it possibly wouldn't work for all), would be to also have a "Max Subtotal Amount". As we offer free shipping over a certain amount. So we could offer a free shipping coupon, but it wouldn't work if the subtotal was over the free shipping threshold amount.

I think I like the subsidizing idea better where free shipping is given up to a shipping fee of X. And anything above that would just be a shipping fee reduced by the shipping discount  (X - shipping_discount).
