johnny_v Developer Frá Netherlands Meðlimur síðan maí 2016 johnny_v 12 jan. 2022 16:22 Hi, I hope all is well in the new year. Feature suggestion here :) Would it be possible to add a function to add payment fees to the order total? Either a fixed fee or a percentage would be appreciated.
tim Founder Frá Sweden Meðlimur síðan maí 2013 tim 12 jan. 2022 20:33 Happy new year Johnny! This is already built in when a payment method returns a cost. It will be added to the order by the ot_payment_fee module. If you do it under edit_order just assign a new order total row, and check the checkbox for including the amount in the calculation.
johnny_v Developer Frá Netherlands Meðlimur síðan maí 2016 johnny_v 13 jan. 2022 09:50 Hi Tim, Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear. The thing is, currently the Paypal module (in which subforum I'm posting this if I'm not mistaken) does not have the possibility to configure a payment fee. I could combine some code from the default cash on delivery module to get this working, but I figured it would be best to have it in the add-on by default, so that the upgrade process remains easy :) That's why I figured it would be best to ask here first. Otherwise I add it in and send you the file later on.
tim Founder Frá Sweden Meðlimur síðan maí 2013 tim 14 jan. 2022 22:35 If you raise fees for the use of Paypal your agreement will be subject of termination as it violates the paypal policy. Still wanna do it? Just have the module return a cost. Be alerted we don't know the full payment due upon this stage. Only the subtotal. https://wiki.litecart.net/how_to_create_a_payment_module 'cost' => $subtotal * 0.03, // Sets a 3% fee

tim Founder Frá Sweden Meðlimur síðan maí 2013 tim 16 maí 2023 22:51 @blackfreud Although paypal do mainly card payments I just wanna say think that law only applies to card payments?
blackyfreud Developer Frá Germany Meðlimur síðan apr. 2023 blackyfreud 16 maí 2023 22:54 Hmm, think it applies to any online shopping transaction... e.g. also bank transfer. If i charge extra for making it available to my customer then it against EU regulations. Been reading up on this during the last few days ...
tim Founder Frá Sweden Meðlimur síðan maí 2013 tim 17 maí 2023 13:31 I know that currency conversion is regulated. And that many still charge invoice fees. If you have a few links of reading feel free to post. :)
blackyfreud Developer Frá Germany Meðlimur síðan apr. 2023 blackyfreud 17 maí 2023 18:28 Okay, I looked it up and you are right about it only applying to card payments regarding surcharging :)
Traders in the EU are not allowed to charge you extra for using your credit or debit card. The only exceptions to this rule are American Express/Diners Club cards and business or corporate credit cards, where your employer is billed instead of you.
https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/consumers/shopping/pricing-payments/index_en.htm (see surcharging and also conversion charges section)
tim Founder Frá Sweden Meðlimur síðan maí 2013 tim 18 maí 2023 12:53 Appearantly you can charge extra for currency conversions but it has to be stated.
If a trader or website offers you the option to pay in your home currency, they must tell you exactly how much extra it will cost. They should express that cost as a percentage mark‑up over the latest exchange rates of the European Central Bank .
And this one is important
As an EU national or resident you can't be charged a higher price when buying products or services in the EU just because of your nationality or country of residence.
blackyfreud Developer Frá Germany Meðlimur síðan apr. 2023 blackyfreud 18 maí 2023 14:03 yep :) but on the other hand, from a seller's perspective, it's easy enough to get around the extra costs involved in offering various payment methods etc. ... just increase your prices accordingly. This is done by many anyway regarding postage ... part of the postage or delivery costs are calculated into the price, as otherwise (especially on cheap items) the cost of shippment would often be disproportional to the cost of the product. We are not all Amazon ;) - but let's not get into the ethics behind all that (shudder).
